Mohair is a natural fibre that comes from an Angora goat. These animals are farmed on the wide open plains of the Karoo in South Africa, which is the largest producer of mohair in the world. High-quality fibre comes from the baby or kid goat. Adult hair is scratchy and best used for carpets and curtains.
The yarn is spun for us in Gqeberha/ Port Elizabeth, which is only 180km away, so the carbon footprint is hugely reduced and the yarn is truly a local product.
The yarn is dyed in our workshop by Sindy (Nolosindiswa) in small dyelots, enabling us to offer a wide range of colours. No chemicals are used in the process to protect our environment so the colours are deemed semi-solid as there is sometimes some delightful colour variations.
